Starting with the global problem of drinking water scarcity, the pavilion re-imagines sanitation.
Huussi, latrine in Finnish, is a dry toilet already commonly used in rural areas of Finland. The waste is then turned into compost, thanks to the environmentally friendly material composed of bacteria and fungi used to cover the waste.
The system thus reduces both water waste and the use of chemical fertilizers, as well as expensive raw materials, as it is made of inexpensive recycled materials.
At the conclusion of the exhibition, huussi will be transported to the Vignole, to an agri-environmental park run by the non-profit Veras, where it will be roofed and made efficient.
One of the most interesting structures we built this year! Thanks to @archinfo_finland #thedrycollective #informationcentreforfinnisharchiecture for choosing us as builders
